The financial crisis that has hit so many businesses and nonprofit organizations has hit churches, too. Giving is down in the United Methodist Church and individual congregations are having to make "tough decisions in the face of challenging situations." The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has just announced a "restructuring" plan that has resulted in widespread layoffs of national church employees. Even the much admired Crystal Cathedral couldn't cut budgets "fast enough to keep up with the unprecedented rapid decline in revenue due to the recession." They've filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
We're offering a live webinar experience on Tuesday, November 2, designed to help church leaders deal with their budget blues. We believe this crisis can actually be an opportunity to begin living and working together in new, more lifegiving, more sustainable ways.
