Take a few minutes this week to look around at the people you work with and serve beside. For whom and for what are you thankful? Be sure you let somebody know.
Leadership blogger Kevin Eikenberry has some tips for how leaders can create a culture of gratitude. He says "leaders can transform genuine gratitude into a positive force for change and success for those you lead and in your organization in general." Blogger, Jon Gordon has some ideas about how to practice Thanksgiving every day of the year. He says, "Gratitude is like muscle. The more we do with it the stronger it gets."
One of the jobs you have as a leader is Igniting Passion (this is one of the leadership practices we're teaching on our Treasures in Clay Jar tour). In the old, consumable models, igniting passion would mean getting everybody as excited about your vision and ideas as you are. But in a renewable model, igniting passion is about creating HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS. It's about helping people become passionate for each other, for their context/community, and for their shared purpose. It's about making space for love to grow.
And nothing is a better fertilizer for love than gratitude.
So, take a walk around your office today and tell each person why you're thankful for them. Spend an hour sending out thank-you emails. Put up a gratitude thank you board where everybody can share their reasons for giving thanks.
Pass it on.
And watch love grow.
